    Adipati: sovereign.
    Akhara (or Okhna): previously a high title of honour conferred on a few distinguished individuals, but since 1994 awarded to recipients of the First Class of the Construction Medal who have expended in eexcess of USD 100,000 towards national reconstruction.

    Akka: sister.
    Ammachas Jivitha Ludhibana (or Mechas Chivit Loeuhthbaung): 'Lord of Life, of hair and all things', one of the titles of the King.
    Anak (or Neak): title borne by a secondary wife of inferior rank.

    Anak
    Anga Machas (or Neak Ang Mechas): title borne by the children of a Samdach by a Brhat Jaya, of a Brhat Anga Machas and an Anak Anga Machas or, an Anak Mnan.
    Anak Mnan: title borne by the wife of a Samdach, or a Brhat Anga Machas, an Anak Raja Varman or a Brhat Varman who was born untitled.

    Anak
    Anga Raja Varman (or Neak Ang Reachavong): title borne by the children of an Anak Anga Machas and a Samrap, and of the children of two Anak Raja Varman.
    Anga (or Ang, Ong): person, being.
    Brahma: the Hindu god of creation.
    Brahman: supreme being.
    Brhat (or Phra or Preah): august, eminent, sacred.
    Brhat Anga (or Preah Ang): 'sacred being'.

    Brhat
    Anga Jaya (or Preah Ang Chey or Preah Ang Cheath): title borne by a Princess married to the sovereign who received the conch from a Brahmin priest.
    Brhat Anga Machas (or Preah Ang Mechas): title borne by the children of the sovereign by his Anga Jaya, or conferred by brevet on the children of a Chau Chom or an Anak. Also used for the children of the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja by a wife who was not a princess, for the children of two Brhat Anga Machas and for the children of a Samdach by a Brhat Devi.

    Brhat
    Devi (or Preah Tep): title borne by the wife of a Samdach, if of the rank of Brhat Anga Machas.
    Brhat Jaya (or Preah Chey): title borne by the wife of a Samdach if of the rank of Anak Anga Machas, also of a Brhat Anga Machas if of the same rank.

    Keo Fa: 'the sacred celestial christal' the fourth most important title conferred on male members of the Royal House.

    Urasa (or Preah Oras): term employed to denote the children of the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja by a wife who was not a princess, for the children of a Brhat Anga Machas by a Brhat Jaya, Jaya or Anak Mnan, of two Anak Anga Machas, and for the children of a Samdach by a Brhat Jaya or Anak Mnan.

    Priya Putra Kshatra: term employed to denote the sons of the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja by a Brhat Mahasuri or Brhat Raj Devi, of a Samdach by a Brhat Devi, or of a Brhat Anga Machas by a Brhat Jaya or Jaya.
    Brhat
    Priya Putri Khsatriya: term employed to denote the daughters of the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja by a Brhat Mahasuri or Brhat Raj Devi. Also used to denote the daughters of a Samdach by a Brhat Devi, or of a Brhat Anga Machas by a Brhat Jaya or Jaya.

    Raj Devi (or Preah Reach Tep): title borne by the wife of the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja.
    Brhat Raj Putra: 'sacred royal son', term employed to denote the son of a sovereign.

    Varman (or Preah Vongs): title borne by the children of an Anak Raja Varman by a Brhat Varman, or an untitled lady. Also used for the children of two Brhat Varman.
    Bupati: Lord of the Earth.
    Chau Krung Kambuja: Kingdom of Cambodia.
    Ekka (or Ek): first, chief.
    Fa: heaven.
    Hari: another name for Indra
    Indra: 'master of the celestial beings', god.
    Isvara: 'master of the earthly world', god.
    Jaya (or Chey): victor, a title borne by the wife of a Brhat Anga Machas if of the rank of Anak Anga Machas, or of an Anak Anga Machas, if of the same rank.

    Kambuja
    (or Kampuchea): Cambodia.
    Karuna Visesa
    : 'Compassionate and Merciful', one of the many titles of the King.
    Khattiya: Pali form of the Sanskrit Kshatriya.
    Keo: crystal, precious jewel.
    Kotha: treasure.
    Krung Kambuja: 'Land of the Khmers', i.e. Cambodia.
    Kshatriya (or Kshatra): Prince, particularly of the rank of Anak Anga Machas, form the Sanskrit meaning 'of caste of temporal nobles'.
    Kshatriyi (or Kshatri): Princess, particularly of the rank of Anak Anga Machas.
    Kshatriyi Khattiyakanna: Princess, wife of the Sovereign, the Maha Uparaja or the Maha Upayuvaraja, of a Samdach of the rank of Brhat Anga Machas, or a Samdach of the rank of Anak Anga Machas.
    Lok Chumteav: the title of the principal wife of an Okhna.
    Machas (or mechas): Prince or Princess.

    Maha
    (or moha): great.
    Maha Upayuvaraja: 'great joint king', a title often used by Kings after their abdication.
    Maha Uparaja: 'great secondary king'. Viceroy or Vice-king, the third most important title in the hierarchy, usually conferred on the Heir Apprent, either a son or nephew of the reigning king.
    Muni (or moni): sage, austere person.
    Nang (or Nan): lady, woman.

    Nara
    : a rank of honour.
    Narayana: another name for Vishnu.

    Narindra
    : lord of beings.

    Pada (or Bat): base.

    Parama
    (or Borom/Barom): supreme, absolute.
    Priya Putra: a term employed to designate the children of Brhat Anga Machas by an Anak Anga Machas, a Brhat Varman or an untitled lady. Also for those of an Anak Anga Machas by another Anak Anga Machas, or a Samrap.
    Priya Putra Khsatra: a term employed to designate the sons of a Samdach by his Brhat Devi.
    Priya Putri Khsatriya: a term employed to designate the daughters of a Samdach by his Brhat Devi.
    Putra: son.
    Putra Prus: a term employed to designate the sons of an Anak Raja Varman by an Anak Raja Varman, a Brhat Varman or lady without title. Also used for the sons of two Brhat Varman.
    Putri: daughter.
    Putri Sri: a term employed to denote the daughters of an Anak Raja Varman by an Anak Raja Varman, a Brhat Varman or lady without title. Also used for the daughters of two Brhat Varman.
    Raj (or Reach): Royal.

    Raja
    (or Reachea): when used on its own, usually signifies Prince. When combined with a long series of other royal titles, signifies King.
    Raksha
    : protector, guardian.
    Rama (or Reamea): charmer.
    Rastha (or Reasth): title enjoyed by the children of an Anak by a lady born without a title.
    Samdach (or Somdetch): 'Most Excellent'. When conjoined with Sdach, signifies Supreme King or King regnant.

    Samdach
    Brhat Anga Mahasuri: title borne by the Chief Queen, if borne a Princess and married to the sovereign by a Brahmin priest.
    Samdach Brhat Anga Raj Devi: title borne by the second most senior wife of the sovereign.
    Samdach Brhat Ayya Putra: title borne by the son of the sovereign by an Anga Mahasuri or Anga Raj Devi.
    Samdach Brhat Mahasuri (or Samdach Preah Mohesi): title borne by the senior wife of a Maha Uparaja or Maha Upayuvaraja.
    Samdach Brhat Parama Raj Putra: title borne by the son of the sovereign by an Anga Mahasuri or Anga Raj Devi.
    Samdach Brhat Raj Urasa: title borne by the son of the sovereign by an Anga Mahasuri or Anga Raj Devi.
    Samdach Brhat Raj Putra: son of the sovereign by an Anga Jaya.
    Samdach Brhat Raj Putri: daughter of the sovereign by an Anga Jaya.
    Samdach Brhat Raja Thida: daughter of the sovereign by an Anga Mahasuri or Anga Raj Devi.
    Samrap: wife of an Anak Anga Machas of inferior rank.
    Sdach (or Sdech): King.
    Simha: lion.
    Snang: Deputy.
    Sri: honorific.
    Suriya: sun.
    Suvanna: golden (as in 'suncolour').
    Thida: term employed to designate the daughters of an Anak Anga Machas by a Samrap.
    Trilokyasara: another name for Vishnu.
    Tribhuvanayavara: another name for Vishnu.
    Urasa (or Oras): term employed to designate the sons of an Anak Anga Machas by a Samrap.
