Elect of God, Emperor Le'ul Seggad [Takla Haymanot I] [Gerum Seggad I] [Abrak Seggad], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba, King of the permanent church, Son of the King of one thousand Churches), the Powerful, Venerable and August Emperor, the Referee of Nations, the Shadow of God on Earth, the Guide of the Kings who declare the religion of the Messiah, the Most Powerful of Christian Kings, who supports order between Muslims and the Christians, Protector of the borders of Alexandria, Watcher of the command of the Gospel, Heir of father in sons of a very Powerful, existent empire of the descendants of the Prophets David and Solomon. b. at Gondar, before 1684, son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adyam Seggad I [Iyasu the Great], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by H.M. Empress Malakotawit, educ. privately. Raised to the title of Ras and appointed as Bitwodad 1698 (or 1705). Proclaimed by the Crown Council, following the forced abdicaton and retirement of his father 8th March 1706. Crowned at the Cathedral of St Mary of Zion, Axum, as Le'ul Seggad ('He to whom the highly placed bow'), March 1706. m.Immabet Sablé. He was k. by a band of conspiritors while out hunting, at Geberema, 30th June 1708 (bur. Church of the Angel Gabriel, Kebran island), having had issue, a son and a daughter:

1708 - 1711 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Asrar Seggad [Tewoflos], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. Banished to Mount Wahni 3rd August 1682. Released from confinement on Mount Wahni by Ras Bejironid Yostos and raised to the throne after the deposition of his grand nephew, 14th July 1708. Crowned at the Sehra Mangest, Guzara-Emferaz, as Asrar Seggad, 19th July 1708. m. an only wife. He k. (poisoned by an emissary of Yostos), at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 2nd September 1711 (bur. Sadda).

1711 - 1716 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Tsahai Seggad [Yostos], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba, elder son of Dejazmatch Delba Iyasus, and grandson of Princess Amlakawit, daughter of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Yohannes I Sadiq, educ. privately. Lord Steward 1706-1708, Governor of Samen and Tigray 1708-1711. Raised to the tile of Ras Bejironid by Emperor Tewoflos 12th August 1711. Killed his sovereign and assumed regal authority, 2nd September 1711. Proclaimed after the death of his maternal grand uncle, 14th October 1711. Crowned as Tsahai Seggad ('He to whom the sun bows'). Deposed by the nobles and the clergy when they discovered that he had secretly espoused the Roman Catholic faith, 9th February 1716. He was k. (strangled) on the orders of the clergy, at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 19th February 1716 (bur. Church of the Nativity, Ledata), having had issue, a son:

1716 - 1721 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adbar Seggad I [Dawit V], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. 1695, fourth son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adyam Seggad I [Iyasu the Great], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by his morganatic wife, Woizero Kedaste Krestos, educ. privately. Imprisoned on Mount Wahni 1706-1716. Summoned to court by the clerics and nobles, after the deposition of his cousin, 9th February 1716. Proclaimed at Gondar, 11th February 1716. Crowned as Adbar Seggad ('He to whom the mountains bow'). Persecuted the Roman Catholic faction and its clerics. He d. at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 18th May 1721 (bur. Dadda) (succ. by his half-brother).

1721 - 1730 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adbar Seggad II "Bakaffa" [Masih Seggad], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. 1696, as Prince Bakaffa, son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adyam Seggad I [Iyasu the Great], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by his first wife, H.M. Empress Adyam Mogassa, daughter of Prince Mikael Wolde Giyorgis Wagde, educ. privately. Baptised as Adma Giyorgis. Confined on Mount Wahni 1706, later escaped to the Yajju Oromo, recaptured and imprisoned. Proclaimed by the clergy, in preference to his elder brother Wolde Giyorgis, 24th May 1721. Crowned as Adbar Seggad II. m. at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 20th October 1723, H.M. Empress Adbar Mogassa (d. at Gondar, 8th November 1723, bur. in the Royal Mausoleum, Dabra Berhan Selassie Church, Gondar), baptised as Awalda Negest, crowned as Empress Adbar Mogassa at Dabra Berhan Selassie Church, Gondar, 21st October 1723, from Gabarma. m. (a) Woizero Walatta Petros (d. in childbirth, at Qaha, 15th February 1722, bur. Sakalt), daughter of Basha Mammo. m. (b) at Qwara, 6th September 1722, H.M. Empress Berhan Mogassa [Mentwab] (b. at Qwara, ca. 1706; m. (b) Garazmatch Iyasu Milmal, by whom she had issue, and d. at Qwasqwam Palace, near Gondar, 27th June 1773, bur. at the Monastery Church of St Mary of Qwasqwam), baptised as Walatta Giyorgis, Regent for her son from 19th September 1730, crowned as Empress Berhan Mogassa at Gondar 23rd December 1730, daughter of Dejazmatch Manbare, of Dembiya, by his wife, Woizero Yenkoy, daughter of Abeto Waksos, of Bula. He d. from illness, at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 19th September 1730 (bur. there at the Abuna Takla Haymanot Church), having had issue, one son and four daughters:

1730 - 1755 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Berhan Seggad [Iyasu II], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. at Qwara, 16th June 1723, son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adbar Seggad II "Bakaffa", King of Kings of Ethiopia, by H.M. Empress Berhan Mogassa [Mentwab], educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 19th September 1730. Crowned as Berhan Seggad ('He to whom the light bows'), at the Makal Gemb, Gondar. Reigned under the regency of his mother, Empress Mentwab. m. (first) (div.) a lady from Amhara, banished with her children to Wahni by Empress Mentwab. m. (second) 1740, Woizero Walatta Bersebeh (d. at Gondar, 4th July 1756, bur. at the Monastery Church of St Mary of Kwesqwam), née Wobit, who was baptised as Walatta Bersebeh on her marriage, daughter of Amito, of Wallo, of the Edjaw clan of Toluma Oromo. He was k. at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 26th June 1755 (bur. there at the Abuna Takla Haymanot Church, later transferred to the Monastery Church of St Mary of Kwesqwam), having had issue, five sons and five daughters:

1755 - 1769 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adyam Seggad II, King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 174x, as Prince Iyoas, fourth son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Berhan Seggad [Iyasu II], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by his second wife, WoizeroWalatta Bersebeh, educ. privately. Severely handicapped from birth. Succeeded on the death of his father, 26th June 1755. Crowned as Adyam Seggad II at the Mannagus, Gondar, 29th June 1755). Deposed in favour of his great uncle by Ras Bitwodad Mikael Sehul, 8th May 1769. His deposition ushered in a long period of decline. m. an Oromo lady. He was k. (strangled by the sons of Natcho) at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 13th May 1769 (bur. at the Monastery Church of St Mary of Kwesqwam), having had issue, three sons and a daughter:

1769 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Sadiq Seggad [Yohannes II], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. 1697, son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Adyam Seggad I [Iyasu the Great], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by Woizero Kedaste Krestos, educ. privately. Imprisoned on Mount Wahni, where he had his hand amputed for attempting an escape. Proclaimed at Gondar, after the deposition of his great nephew by Ras Bitwodad Mikael Sehul, 8th May 1769. Crowned there, at the Mannagus, 10th May 1769.m. (first) Woizero Sancheviyar. m. (second) at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, August 1769, Empress (Itege) Sadiq Mogassa (b. 1752; d.s.p. by taking poison, before May 1771), baptised as Walatta Selassie or Walatta Giyorgis, daughter of Gabre Dengal, by his wife, a daughter of H.H. Ra'asa ra'usan Mikael Sehul Isqias, Prince of Tigray and Viceroy of the Empire. m. (third) Woizero Emanech (m. second, Dejazmatch Arqadewos Afrin, and had further issue). He was k. (poisoned at breakfast on the orders of Ras Bitwodad Mikael Sehul) at the Negus Gemb, Gondar, 15th October 1769, having had issue, two sons and four daughters:

1769 - 1777 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Admas Seggad III [Hayal Seggad] [Itibab Seggad] [Takla Haymanot II] [Gerum Seggad II], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. on Mount Wahni, 1754, elder son of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Sadiq Seggad [Yohannes II], King of Kings of Ethiopia, by his first wife, H.M. Empress Abala Maryam, educ. privately. Proclaimed after the death of his father, 18th October 1769. Crowned as Admas Seggad III at the Mannagus, Gondar. Taken captive with Ras Mika'el Sehul at Dagola in 1771. Weary of the continuing power struggles with his regional governors he repudiated the throne, 13th April 1777. Became a monk at Waldebba Monastery, and thereafter known as Abba Takla Haymanot of Waldebba. m.Woizero Abla Dengal. He d. at Waldebba Monastery, Tigray, 15th September 1777 (bur. there), having had issue, one son and two daughters:

1777 - 1779 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Salomon III, King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba. b. as Prince Wolde Saloman, son of Prince Adigo, educ. privately. Raised to the throne by Dejazmatch Wand Bawosen and Ras Gusho, following the death of Emperor Admas Seggad III [Takla Haymanot II] September 1777. Deposed 20th July 1779. Became a monk after his deposition. He d. 1782, having had issue:

1784 - 1788 H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Ba’ela Seggad [Iyasu III], King of Kings of Ethiopia, Nubia, Enarya and all the kingdoms of Saba, son of Prince Atsequ, by his wife, Princess Mentwab, a member of a cadet branch of the Royal family, and a grandson of Emperor Berhan Seggad [Iyasu II], educ. privately. Crowned at Gojjam by Ras Hailu, 17th February 1784. Captured at Arengo, following the defeat and death of Dejazmatch Wolde Gabre of Tigray, at Madeb. Deposed 24th April 1788. m. WoizeroYatamanu, his only wife. He d. from smallpox, shortly after his deposition, 1788, having had issue, four sons.
