Head of the Royal House of Georgia. b. at Tiflis,
1st June 1767 o.s., eldest son of H.M. Giorgi
XII, King of Georgia, by his first wife, Princess
Kethavan, daughter of Prince Peter Andronikashvili, educ.
Proclaimed as Heir Apparent by his father in violation of
the will of King Irakli II, 22nd February
1799. Confirmed as Heir Apparent by the Emperor of
Russia, 18th April 1799 o.s. Became Head of
the Royal House of Georgia on the death of his father, 28th
December 1800. Before he could be confirmed by the Tsar,
Paul I announced the annexation of Kartli and Kakheti to
Russia, 18th January 1801 o.s. (confirmed by
Alexander I 12th September 1801 o.s.) and a
Russian administration established in April 1802. Removed
to St Petersburg under a Russian military escort, 18th
February 1803 o.s. Csmnd. as a Col. Russian Army attached
Chevalier Grenadiers (St George Regt.) 25/6/1796 o.s.,
prom. Maj-Gen. 5/12/1799 o.s., prom. Lieut-Gen. 1801,
Senator of the Empire 1812-1819. Rcvd: Knt. of the
Orders of St Alexander Nevskii (24.4.1803 o.s.), and St
Anne 1st class (19.5.1799 o.s.) of Russia, and
Knt. of the Order of St John of Malta. m. at
Tiflis, 9th January 1800 o.s., H.H. The Most
Brilliant Princess Eleni (b. at Tiflis, 21st
May 1770 o.s.; d. at St Petersburg, 20th
March 1836 o.s., bur. St Alexander Nevskii
Convent), only daughter of Prince Svimon (Agou) Abamelik.
He d.s.p. at Vasili-Ostrov, St Petersburg, 13th
May 1819 o.s. (bur. Church of St John Chrysostome,
St Alxander Nevskii Convent).

Lieutenant-Colonel Prince Grigol [Kniaz Grigori
Ivannovitch Gruzinski]. b. at Astrakhan,
July 1789, educ. Corps of Pages, St
Petersburg. Proclaimed King during the revolt of
1812, but captured and imprisoned by the Russians
for a year, later served in the Russian army.
Later cmsnd. into the Russian army and rose to
the rank of Lieut-Col. Astrakan Cossacks.
Recognised in the title of Kniaz Gruzinski
(Prince of Georgia) by the Tsar of Russia, 6th
May 1833. m. 28th January 1824,
H.S.H. Princess Varvara Feodorovna (b. at
Tiflis, 10th December 1810 o.s.; d.
at St Petersburg, 29th November 1876
o.s.), daughter of H.H.E. Feodor Bukrinskii,
Councillor of State. He d.v.p. at St
Petersburg, 21st September 1830 o.s. (bur.
St Alexander Nevskii Convent), having had issue,
one son and two daughters:

Varvara, daughter of H.H.E. Feodor Bukrinskii, educ.
Imperial Page, Lieut. Horse Guards, rtd. 1848. Recognised
in the title of Kniaz Gruzinski (Prince of
Georgia) by the Tsar of Russia, 6th May 1833.
Granted the style of His Serene Highness, for
himself and his male-line descendants, 1st

H.S.H. Princess Ekaterina Pavlovna, daughter of General
H.H.E. Count Paul Karl Ernst Wilhelm Philipp von der
Pahlen, of Katzenmünde, by his third wife, Countess
Ekaterina Vassilievna, eldest daughter of General H.H.E.
Count Vassili Petrovitch Orlov-Denissov, sometime Ataman
of the Don Cossacks. He d.s.p. at St Petersburg,

Officer of the Ordnance to the C-in-C and Viceroy of the
Caucasus, Lieut. Regt. of Cossacks of the Imperial Guard
1852. Recognised in the title of Kniaz Gruzinski
(Prince of Georgia) by the Tsar of Russia, 6th
May 1833. Granted the style of His Serene Highness,
