Shrimant Khem Sawant IV Bhonsle Bahadur [Bapu Sahib], Sir
Desai of Sawantwadi. b. at Wadi Fort, 1804,
younger son of H.H. Raja Shrimant Phond Sawant III
Bhonsle Bahadur, Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, by his second
wife, the Nesreekar Rani Sahib, educ. privately.
Succeeded on the death of his father, 3rd
October 1812. Reigned under a Council of Regency until he
came of age and was invested with full ruling powers, at
Wadi Fort, 11th February 1823. He faced severe
insurrections by members of his family and his nobles
several times during his reign, most seriously in
1844-1849, and needed the assistence of British troops to
bring them into line. Received a sanad of
adoption, 11th March 1862. m. (first)
at Wadi Fort, 1815, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati
Rani Lakshmibai Raje Bhonsle (d. at Wadi Fort, 25th
April 1832), daughter of Sardar Mahab Rao Patankar, by
his wife, Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Babnibai
Patankar, daughter of Shrimant Som Sawant Bhonsle. m.
(second) H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani
Savitribai Raje Bhonsle, from an obscure family in
Mazgaum. m. (third) H.H. Shrimant Akhand
Soubhagyavati Rani Jankibai Raje Bhonsle (d. at
Wadi Fort, June 1876). He d. at Wadi Fort, 1867,
having had issue, four sons and two daughters:

Raja Shrimant Phond Sawant IV Bhonsle Bahadur [Anna
Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi. b. at Wadi Fort,
1828, eldest son of H.H. Raja Shrimant Khem Sawant IV
Bhonsle Bahadur [Bapu Sahib], Sir Desai of Sawantwadi, by
his first wife, H.H. Shrimant Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani
Lakshmibai Raje Sahib Bhonsle, educ. privately. He
joined his cousins and rebelled against his father in
1844-1846, following a dissagreement with his
step-mother, then fled to Goa in Portuguese India before
being persuaded to return to Wadi in 1849. Pardoned and
reinstated as Heir Apparent in 1850. Succeeded on the
death of his father, 1867. m. H.H. Shrimant Akhand
Soubhagyavati Rani Tarabai Raje Sahib Bhonsle, daughter
of Shrimant Subhanrao Shinde, Sena Khas Khel Sena
Dhurandhar Vishwasvidhi, Samust Shiv Dhurandhar, Chief of
Torgal. He d. 7th March 1869, having
had issue, one son:

and Rajkumar Coll, Rajkot. Succeeded on the death of his
father, 7th March 1869. Reigned under a
Council of Regency until he came of age and was invested
with full ruling powers. Rcvd: Prince of Wales's
(1875), and KIH (1877) gold medals. m. (first) at
Baroda, 21st December 1879, H.H. Shrimant
Akhand Soubhagyavati Rani Sitabai Raje Bhonsle (b.
posthumously, at the Residency, Baroda, 5th
July 1871; d. at Sawantwadi, 14th June
1897), née Shrimant Maharajkumari Tarabai Raje Gaekwad,
youngest daughter of H.H. Shrimant Maharaja Sir Khanderao

Administration, until he reached his majority and was
invested with full ruling powers, 17th June
