ORDERS & DECORATIONS

The Precious Jewel of the Heart of Sikkim (Denzong Thu ki Norbu): founded by Chogyal Chempo Palden Thondup Namgyal in September 1972, to reward merit in all fields of service and endeavour. Awarded in an exceptional class (Grand Commander with Collar) and three ordinary classes (1. First Class or Grand Commander, 2. Second Class or Commander, and 3. Third Class or Member). Ribbon – white with a broad central stripe of red-ochre with two narrow saffron (yellow ochre) stripes towards each edge. Note: the name of this decoration is often imperfectly given in some as the “Order of the Jewel of Sikkim” and erroneously said to have had five classes.

The Poti Pedor Decoration: instituted by Maharaja Tashi Namgyal before 1960, as a reward for exceptional and distinguished service to the Sikkim Durbar, and awarded without distinction of race, occupation position or sex in a single class, in a single class, circular gold medal embossed with a bust of the Chogyal, with his style and titles on the obverse, worn from a neck ribbon of plain red.

The Jigme Decoration (Bravery Decoration): instituted by Maharaja Tashi Namgyal on 24th February 1960, and awarded to men and women alike, a circular medal in two classes (1. Jigme Pao or Fearless Hero - silver, for exceptional and distinguished acts of courage and bravery, 2. Jigme Singi or Fearless Lion - bronze, for distinguished acts of courage and bravery). The decoration may be awarded posthumously. Ribbon - dark slate with yellow edgings.

The Pema Dorji Decoration.

The Pema Dorji Decoration: instituted by Maharaja Tashi Namgyal on 24th February 1960, as a reward for distinguished service in any field, including government service, and awarded without distinction of race, occupation position or sex in a single class, circular silver medal embossed with a bust of the Chogyal, with his style and titles on the obverse, worn on the left breast on a ribbon - red with yellow edgings.

The Palden Thondup Namgyal Coronation Medal - obverse (L) and reverse (R).

The Coronation Medal (Ser-thri Nga-sol Medal): instituted by Chogyal Chempo Palden Thondup Namgyal to commemorate his Coronation on 4th April 1965. Awarded in a single class (silver medal). Ribbon – red with saffron edgings.

The Service Medal (Lhaksam Shabdek Badhar): instituted by Maharaja Tashi Namgyal before 1960 as a reward for loyal and distinguished service, awarded without distinction of race, occupation position or sex in a single class, in a single class, circular silver medal. Ribbon – five vertical stripes in equal width of white, yellow, red-ochre, yellow, white.
