Installed at Kuwait City, 25th February 1950. Attended the Coronation of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey in London, 1953. Signed a new Treaty of with the United Kingdom which recognised the full independence and sovereignty of Kuwait, 19th June 1961. Faced an armed invasion, following the claim to Kuwait by the Iraqi dictator Qasim, six days later. Introduced a Constituion in 1962, followed by an elected National Assembly in 1963.
