1758 – 1814 Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah I bin Sabah Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait. b. 1740, son of Shaikh Sabah I bin Jabir, Shaikh of Kuwait. Elected by the chiefs and notables as ruler after the death of his father, in preference to his elder brothers, before 5th September 1758. He d. 3rd May 1814, having had issue, two sons and one daughter:
  • 1) Shaikh Jabir I bin ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait – see below.
  • 2) Shaikh Duaij bin ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah. He was k. by pirates, 1809.
  • 3) Shaikh Muhammad bin ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah. He had issue, two sons:
    • a) Shaikh Yusuf bin Muhammad Al-Sabah.
    • b) Shaikh Is’aud bin Muhammad Al-Sabah. He had issue, four sons:
      • i) Shaikh Muhammad bin Saud Al-Sabah, of Failaka island. b. 1826. He d.s.p.m.
      • ii) Shaikh Sabah bin Saud Al-Sabah. b. 1828. He had issue:
        • (1) Shaikh Sabah bin Sabah Al-Sabah.
      • iii) Shaikh Mubarak bin Saud Al-Sabah. b. 1829.
      • iv) Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah bin Saud Al-Sabah, of Failaka island. b. 1832. (s/o a slave). He had issue:
        • (1) Shaikh I’saud bin ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah, of Failaka island (s/o a slave).
  • 1) Shaikha Mariam bint ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah. She was the celebrated cause of a pitched battle between two suitors, Shaikh Barakat of the Bani Ka’ab and her cousin and future husband, Salim. His heroic defence against Barakat’s fleet exemplified to this day in the rallying cry of the Al-Sabah “Ana akhu Mariam” (I am Mariam’s brother) and the reference to the the Al-Sabah as the “Ikhwan Mariam” (Mariam’s brothers). m. Shaikh Salim bin Mubarak Al-Sabah, younger son of Shaikh Mubarak bin Sabah Al-Sabah – see above.

  • 1814 - 1859 Shaikh Jabir I bin ‘Abdu’llah Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait. b. ca. 1772, son of Shaikh ‘Abdu’llah I bin Sabah Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, 3rd May 1814. Delegated executive powers to his eldest son, Sabah, 1843. m. a daughter of Shaikh Sultan bin Sabah Al-Sabah. He d. 1859, having had issue, ten sons and four daughters:

      • b) Shaikh Fazil bin Duaij Al-Sabah. b. 1842 (s/o Asma). m. as her second husband, Shaikha Hababa bint Sabah Al-Sabah (b. before 1837; d. 24th November 1907), widow of Shaikh Khalifa bin Yusuf Al-Sabah, and daughter of Shaikh Sabah II bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah, Shaikh of Kuwait. He had issue, one son and one daughter:
        • i) Shaikh Jabir bin Fazil Al-Sabah. b. 1858 (s/o Hababa). m. (first) Shaikha Lulwa bint ‘Ali Al-Sabah (m. second, Shaikh Saud Bey Al-Sabah), daughter of Shaikh ‘Ali bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah. m. (second) Munira, née Al-Dukheel. He d. 1921, having had issue:
          • (1) Shaikh Ibrahim bin Jabir Al-‘Ali Al-Sabah. b. 1894 (s/o a concubine). m. Shaikha Aisha bint Mubarak Al-Sabah (d. at Kuwait, 1950), daughter of H.E. Shaikh Mubarak I bin Sabah Al-Sabah, the Great, Shaikh of Kuwait and dependencies, KCSI, KCIE, wife, Ghanima. He had issue, two sons and three daughters:
            • (a) Shaikh Fazil bin Ibrahim Al-Sabah. b. 1912. He d.s.p.

Shaikh Fahad bin Salim Al-Sabah, by his wife, Shaikha Badria bint Saud Al-Sabah, daughter of Shaikh Saud bin Muhammad Al-Sabah. She had issue, one son and one daughter – see below.

Commander of the Kuwaiti Forces during the liberation of Kuwait 1991, COGS 1992, Ambassador to Saudi Arabia 1998-2001, Minister for the Interior 2007-2011. m Shaikha Haya bint ‘Abdu’l-Aziz al-Sabah (b. 1946; d. 8th May 2009), daughter of Shaikh ‘Abdu’l-Aziz bin Hamud al-Sabah, by his wife, Shaikha Mariam bint ‘Abdu’llah al-Sabah, daughter of H.E.
