GENEALOGY
- Ngata, 1st Tu'i Kanokupolu, third son of Mo'unga-'o-tonga, 6th Tu'i Ha'a Takala'ua, by his wife, Tohu'ia, daughter of Ama, a Samoan from Safata on the island of Upolu. m. (first) Hifo, elder daughter of The 'Ahome'e, of Hihifo. m. (second) Kaufo'ou, younger daughter of The 'Ahome'e. He had issue, five sons and one daughter:
- 1) Vakalepu, 1st 'Ahio (s/o Hifo). Abdicated his rights in favour of his younger brother, Atamata'ila. Lived at 'Eua.
- 2) Atamata'ila, 2nd Tu'i Kanokupolu (s/o Kaufo'ou) - see below.
- 3) Leilua (s/o Kaufo'ou). Ancestor of the Ve'ehala family.
- 4) Kaumavae, 1st Ata (s/o Kaufo'ou). Head of the Ha'a Ngata lineage. He had issue, one son:
- a) Fakahau, 2nd Ata. He had issue, two sons and one daughter:
- i) Pavakahuhua, 3rd Ata. He had issue, two sons:

- (ii) The Hon Tapukitea Finau-'Ulukalala-Ata. m. The Hon Sia'osi Finau Misini-tu'itu'i-'o-Vav'au, 5th Finau-'Ulukalala (b. Vav'au, 1865; d. 10th November 1938), sometime Governor of Vava'u, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly & Vice-Prest. Privy Cncl., son of The Hon Nafetalai Matekitonga, 4th Finau-'Ulukalala, by his first wife, The Hon 'Anaseini Tupou Finau-'Ulukalala, daughter of Setaleki Mumui. She had issue, one son - see Tonga (Vav'au).
- (b) The Hon Masima Ata Sefesi. m. The Hon 'Ilaisa'ane Ata, daughter of Paula Halaholo Halaevalu, by his wife, 'Alisi Numia Lu'uakaetau. He had issue, two sons and one daughter:
- (i) The Hon Tevita Manu-'o-pangai. m. The Hon Pauline Manutu'ufanga, daughter of Tangataolakepa Maafu, by his wife, Akosita Tae Maatu. He d. 30th July 1898, having had issue, a son and a daughter:
- 1. The Hon Solomone Ula-moleka, 8th Ata, of Kolovai, OBE (c 11.8.1948). b. at Kolomotua, Tongatapu,16th May 1888, as Solomone Piutau, educ. Newington Coll., Sydney. Assumed the name of Ula-moleka on his adoption by his grand uncle. Succeeded as 8th Ata 12th November 1904. - 1. 'Ilaisa'ane Fotui. b. at Kolovai, Tongatapu, 18th November 1879 (d/o Ata and Mele). m. 1899, Molitoni Fisiihoi Finau (b. at Kolomotua, Tongatapu,26th March 1875; d. at Nukualofa, Tongatapu, 11th June 1965). She d. 17th September 1939, having had issue, two sons:
- a. Fine Falala Finau. b. at Nukualofa, Tongatapu, 9th January 1900. He d. 30th December 1910.
- b. Tevita Tamataane Finau. b. at Nukualofa, Tongatapu, 16th March 1903. He d. 5th August 1904.
- (ii) The Hon Uiliami Teukava.
- (i) The Hon Tapukitea Finau-'Ulukalala. m. The Hon Sia'osi Finau Misini-tu'itu'i-'o-Vava'u, 5th Finau-'Ulukalala (b. 1865; d. 10th November 1938), Governor of Vava'u, son of The Hon Matekitonga, 4th Finau-'Ulukalala, by his first wife, The Hon 'Anaseini Tupou Finau-'Ulukalala, daughter of The Hon Setaleki Mumui, sometime Chief Justice. She had issue - see Tonga (Vava'u).
- (a) Fangafua. m. as his fourth wife, H.H. Finau Tuku'aho [Talai Tupou], 14th Tu'i Konokupolo (b. 1753; k. at the annual 'inasi at Mu'a, by Finau Tupouni'ua, on behalf of Finau-'Ulukalala, 21st April 1799), second son of Mumui'i Topou'ila Mapatongiamanu, 13th Tu'i Konokupolo, by his second wife, Lepolo, daughter of Motu'a Ata. She was k. (strangled) at Mu'a, April 1799 (bur. Hihifo), having had issue, one daughter - see below.
- (1) Lepolo. m. as his second wife, H.H. Mumui'i Topou'ila Mapatongiamanu, 13th Tu'i Konokupolo (b. 1733; d. 29th April 1797), youngest son of Ma'afu-'o-tu'itonga, 6th Tu'i Konokupolo, by his second wife, Pupua'uli'uli Kavakipopua, daughter of Paleisasa. She d. after 1797, having had issue - see below.
- i) Fiekanive. m. and had issue, a son:
- (1) Pulupulutu'u. Ancestor of the Ma'afu-'o-Takinima family.

- 1) Tu'utanga Hunuhunu. m. (first) Tapu'osi Kau'ulufonua III, 31st Tu'i Tonga, eldest son of Fatafehi, 30th Tu'i Tonga. m. Kaloafutonga, Ma'itaki, eldest daughter of Mo'unga-'o-tonga, 6th Tu'i Ha-a Takala'ua. m. (second) Kinikinikau, son of Tatafu, 10th Tu'i Ha'a Takala'ua, by his wife, Hoko'iamailangi, daughter of Tungimana'ia, 2nd Tu'i Ha'ateiho. She had issue - see Tonga (Tu'i Ha'a Takala'ua).

- (a) Taufa Ho'amofaleono. m. (first) H.H. Tupouto'a, 17th Tu'i Konokupolo (d. at Ha'apai, 1820, bur. 'Uiha), eldest son of H.H. Talai Tupou, 14th Tu'i Konokupolo, by whom she had issue, a son - see below. m. (second), Liufau, Tu'i Ha'angana Ngata. m. (third) Moimoi'angaha, son of Nuku. She had further issue, one son by her third husband:
- (i) Finau Filimoe'ulie, 5th Ma'afu-'o- Tukui'aulahi, of Vaini. b. 1825 (s/o Moimoi'angaha). m. 1845, 'Ane Nanasi (b. at Pangai, Ha'apai, 1829; d. at at Fakakakai, Ha'apai, 19th January 1900, bur. there), daughter of Fekeila Kioa, by his wife, Litia Ikahihifo, daughter of Tupou Kapetaua. He d. at Fakakakai, Ha'apai, 12th July 1903 (bur. there), having had issue, five sons and two daughters:
- 1. The Hon Siotame Fakatulolo, 6th Ma'afu-'o- Tukui'aulahi, of Vaini. b. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 15th September 1878. m. Teisa Vaka Sateki (b. at Samoa, 20th May 1880; d. 1950). He d. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 17th August 1936, having had issue, a son:
- a. The Hon Siosaia Lausi'i, 7th Ma'afu-'o- Tukui'aulahi, of Vaini. b. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 28th December 1906. m. The Hon 'Anau Kihesina Ma'afu (b. 12th May 1900; d. 14th May 1976), elder daughter of Sione Lamipeti, by his wife, 'Alilia Funakitoutai, daughter of Tevita Ta'ofikaetau Tapueluelu. He d. 20th January 1937 (or 15th April 1963), having had issue, three sons and two daughters:
- i. The Hon Tevita Unga Motangitau, 8th Ma'afu-'o- Tukui'aulahi. b. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 29th August 1928. Minister Without Portfolio 1992-1997, Speaker 1972. m. The Hon Peti Ma'afu. He d. 24th October 1997, having had issue, a son:
- 1a. Major The Hon Siosaia Lausi'i (Tukui'aulahi Ma'afu), 9th Lord Ma'afu-'o- Tukui'aulahi, educ. Tonga High Sch., Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu. Maj. Tonga Defence Force, ADC to the King, Private Sec. 2001-2004. Patron Tonga Australian Football Assoc., and the Komite o te kau 'uvea i Toga (Wallis Community of Tonga), etc. m. at the Chapel Royal, Nuku'alofa, 1979, H.R.H. Princess Lavinia Mata-'o-Taone Ma'afu (b. at the Royal Palace, Nuku'alofa, 4th April 1952), third daughter of H.R.H. Prince Sione Ngu Manumata'ongo Tupou, 5th Fatafehi Tu'i Pelehake, KBE, by his wife, H.R.H. Princess Melenaite Tupou-Mohe'ofu Tu'i Pelehake, daughter of Hon. 'Inoke Sateki Matafonua Foru Veikune. He has issue, a daughter.
- ii. The Hon Siotame Hopoate Fuatonga Ma'afu. b. 26th September 1934. m. at Neiafu, 15th March 1963, a daughter of Kuli Ha'apai Kaho, of Pangai, Ha'apai, by his wife, Katalina Marie, daughter of Hans Hansen. He d. at San Mateo, California, USA, 27th August 1999, having had issue, three children.
- iii. The Hon Alipate Tuta'e Ma'afu. b. 1936.
- i. The Hon Tupoutapuki Pulotu, Baroness Vaea of Houma, educ. Anglican Diocesan Sch. for Girls, Auckland, NZ. m. 1952, The Hon Sia'osi Alipate Tupou, Baron Vaea of Houma (b. at Houma, Tongatapu, 15th May 1921), sometime Prime Minister, son of Captain The Hon 'Uliame Vilai Tupou, sometime ADC and Cdt. Royal Guards, by his wife, The Hon Tupou Seini Tupou, elder daughter of The Hon Siosaia Pau'uvale Loloa'atonga, 13th Vaea, of Houma, sometime Minister for Police. She had issue, three sons and three daughters - see below.
- ii. The Hon Fusipala. b. at Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, 6th January 1934. She d. 6th May 1991.
- b. The Hon Elisiva Fusipala Ufi. b. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 19th August 1902. m. Sosoaia Ufi. She d. during the influenza epidemic, at Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, 27th November 1918, having had issue, one son.
- c. The Hon Tuifua'ovava'u Ma'afu. She d. during the influenza epidemic, at Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, 24th November 1918.
- d. The Hon Meleane Vaopolohiva. b. at Vaini, Tongatapu, 20th November 1904. m. (first) Juhei Nakao (b. at Higashi-Murayama, Yamagata, Japan, 11th December 1887; d. at Nuku'alofa, Tongatapu, 28th October 1964, bur. there). m. (second) Paula Feilivai. She d. 20th December 1957, having had issue, one son and one daughter by her first husband.

Royal Guards, natural son of H.M. King Sia'osi Taufa'ahau Tupou II, by Tupou Moheofo, daughter of 'Isileli Tupou. The Hon Amelia Tuna Kaimanu Finau-'Ulukalala-Ata. m. at the Chapel Royal, Nuku'alofa, August 1934, The Hon Noble Sia'osi Tongata-'o-Ha'amea, 6th Finau-'Ulukalala-Ata (b. 15th August 1891; d.s.p.l. at Auckland, New Zealand, 12th September 1960), sometime Minister for Police and Dep. Prime Minister, only son of The Hon Sia'osi Finau Misini-tu'itu'i-'o-Vav'au, 5th Finau-'Ulukalala, sometime Speaker of the Legislative Assembly & Vice-Presdt. Privy Council. She d.s.p. at Houma, March 1974 - see Tonga (Vava'u).
- (iii) The Hon Shadrach Nuku, 12th Vaea, of Houma. He d. 30th July 1893.
- 8) Momotu (s/o 'Umukisia). m. Nanasi, daughter of Tuionukutau. He had issue:
