Abba Seru Gwangul, grandson of Omar Sheik, an Oromo nobleman who settled in Yajju ca. 1529. He had issue:Abba Getiye, son of Wolle, a descendant of Sheikh ‘Umar, an Oromo nobleman of the Bartuma clan, who settled in Yajju ca. 1529. He had issue, three sons:

Raised to the title of Dejazmatch and appointed as Governor of Begameder 17th February 1784. Viceroy (Enderasse) of the Empire 1788. m. (first) ... m. (second) at Garagara, before 10th October 1787, Princess Altash (d. after 1788), daughter of H.M. Elect of God, Emperor Fakr Seggad [Takla Giyorgis I], King of Kings of Ethiopia. He d. at Garagara, Begameder, 18th June 1788 (bur. at Lalibela, Lasta), having had issue, a daughter:

1788 - 1792 H.H. Ras Aligaz Gwangul, son of Gwangul Merid [Abba Seru], of Yajju, by his third wife, Woizero Galibu, educ. privately. Appointed as Wagshum by his brother of Ras ‘Ali [Tiliku] 1788. Succeeded him as Viceroy (Enderase) of the Empire and Governor of Begameder, 1788. Defeated and expelled by Ras Wolde Gabre in 1792. m. (first) ... m. (second) 1790, Woizero Qatsaro, daughter of Woizero Hirut, sister of Ras Hailu Yosadiq, Prince of Gojjam. He d. at Yajju, before 5th August 1803, having had issue, four sons:

1793 - 1799 Ras Wolde Gabre, second son of Abba Seru Gwangul, educ. privately. Governor of Damot and Begameder and Mezikker of Agaw 1793. He was k. in battle with Ras Mired, at Wagara, 20th July 1799 (bur. at the Monastery Church of St Mikael, Atsatsame).

  • 1) Dejazmatch Wule Gugsa. Governor of Lasta. m. Woizero Mekonnen [H.M. Empress Menen] (b. at Warra Himanu, ca. 1800; m. second, 1816, H.E. Ras Alula Gugsa. m. third, Dejazmatch Sahlu. m. fourth, 1840, H.M. Emperor Yohannes III, King of Kings of Ethiopia - see Ethiopia (Gondar), née Halima, daughter of Ras Liban Amade Kolase, Imam of the Wollo of Warra Himenu. He d.v.p. 1819.
  • 2) H.E. Dejazmatch Alula Gugsa (s/o Princess Amata Selassie). Raised to the ranks of Kagnazmatch and Quasa Dejazmatch 3rd August 1799. Governor of Damot under his father. m. 1816, Woizero Mekonnen [H.M. Empress Menen] (m. third, Dejazmatch Sahlu. m. fourth, 1840, H.M. Emperor Yohannes III, King of Kings of Ethiopia - see below), widow of his half-brother, Dejazmatch Wule Gugsa, and daughter of Ras Liban Amade Kolase, Imam of the Wollo of Warra Himenu. He had issue, a son:
    • a) Ras ‘Ali Alula [‘Ali Tekku] - see below.
  • 1) A d/o the first wife. m. Dejazmatch Wolde Gabriel (k. in battle with Blattengeta Wolde Kinfu, on the plain of Assader, December 1810), Governor of Walqayt.
  • 2) Woizero Hirut. b. before 1799 (d/o Princess Amata Selassie). m. before 1st November 1811, as his second wife, H.E. Dejazmatch Haile Mariam Gabre (d. 1826), sometime Governor of Walqayt and Semien, son of Ras Gabre Wolde Rufael, sometime Governor of Semien, by his wife, Woizero Sahlitu, daughter of Dejazmatch Kefla Iyasus, sometime Lieutenant-Governor of Tigray. She had issue, two sons and one daughter - see Ethiopia (Tigray).
  • 3) Woizero Walatta Takla. m. H.E. Dejazmatch Kuluye Maru, sometime Governor of Dembiya.
  • 4) A d/o. m. before 1811, Munet Gwalu, of Gojjam.
  • 5) Woizero Aster. m. before 1811 (div.) H.E. Dejazmatch Wolde Rufael, sometime Governor of Mertcha. m. (second) 1818, as his fourth wife, H.E. Dejazmatch Gabre Mikael, Shum of Temben (k. 1823), sometime Dep. Governor of Tigray, younger son of Shum Saglu, Shum of Temben - see Ethiopia (Tigray).
  • 6) Woizero Terungo. m. Wagshum Kinfu, son of Woizero Bateha, daughter of Shum Marqoryos. She had issue - see Ethiopia (Zagwe).

Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, 1825. He k. at Yajju, after returning from battle with Ras Mariye, January 1828.

Viceroy (Enderasse) of the Empire and Governor of Begameder. b. 1745, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, January 1828. He was k. (shot in the head) by Ato Hagos Sabagadis, at Sere, 15th February 1831 (bur. Dabra Abay).

Empress Menen, educ. privately. Appointed after the death of his grand uncle, as Viceroy (Enderasse) of the Empire and Governor of Begameder July 1831. Succeeded his father as Governor of Gojjam. Defeated by Tewodros and deposed as Viceroy, 29th June 1853. Escaped to Showa. m. (div. 1842) Woizero Hirut, elder daughter of Ras Wube Haile Mariam, sometime Governor of Tigray and Semien. He d. in Showa, 1866, having had issue, one daughter:
  • 1) Woizerit Tewabech [H.M. Empress Tewabech] [Tzou-Bega?]. b. 1831.Kidnapped and imprisoned by Musa Pasha, the Egyptian General 1846. m. January 1848 (civil) and at Amba Chera, 18th September 1854 (relig.) as his second wife, H.M. Tewodoros II, Elect of God and King of Kings of Ethiopia (b. at Sharghe, Qwara, ca. 1818; k. himself at Magdala, 13th April 1868, bur. Magdala, reinturred at Mahbere Selassie Conv., Qwara), youngest son of Dejazmatch Hailu Wolde-Giyorgis, Governor of Qwara, by his second wife, Woizero Attitaggab, daughter of  Wand Bawosen, of Damot. She d. at Magdala, 19th August 1858 - see Ethiopia (Tewodros).
