The Bagrationi (Bagration) Dynasty

GENEALOGY

1512 - 1539 H.H. The Most Brilliant Prince Bagrat I, 1^st Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni). b. before 1488, sixth son of H.M. Konstantini II, King of Georgia, by his wife, H.M. Queen Thamar. Granted the title of Mukhrani-batoni by his brother, King Davit X in 1512. Took holy orders under the name of Varnava (Barnabas), resigning Mukhrani in favour of his eldest son in 1539. m. H.H. The Most Brilliant Princess Eleni. He d. ca. 1540, having had issue, seven sons and three daughters:

1) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang I, 2^nd Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni)- see below.
2) Prince Archili Bagrationi. Envoy to Persia 1573-1576. He d. at Atsqur, Persia, 4^th August 1581, having had issue, a son and a daughter:
- a) Prince Irakli Bagrationi. b. 29^th March 1560. m. 20^th September 1578, Princess Thamar.
- a) Princess Eleni.
3) Prince Ashotani Bagrationi. He was k. in battle 1561, having had issue, a daughter:
- a) Princess Kethavan [H.M. Queen St Kethavan]. b. 1565. m. ca. 1581, H.M. Davit II, King of Kakheti (d. 21^st October 1604), son of H.M. Aleksandri II, King of Kakheti, by his wife, H.M. Queen Tinatina, daughter of Bardzim I Amilakhvari. She d. from the effects of hideous tortures inflicted on the orders of Shah Abbas I at Shiraz, 14^th September 1624, having had issue - see Georgia (Kakheti).
4) Prince Irakli Bagrationi. m. 1548, The Most Brilliant Princess Eleni, daughter of Levanti II, King of Kakheti.
5) Prince Ionatani Bagrationi. He d. young after 1572.
6) Prince Iotani Bagrationi. He d. young after 1572.
7) Prince Aleksandri Bagrationi. He d. young after 1604.
1) Princess Leodora. She d. young after 1572.
2) Princess Gul Dapar. She d. young after 1572.
3) ? Princess Dédis-Imédi. b. 1437. Entered holy orders in widowhood under the name of Debra.m. Quarqvare III Jageli, Atabegi of Samtzkhé (b. 1418; d. 1^st September 1500), younger son of Agha Burgha Jageli, Atabegi of Samtzkhé. She d. at Samktzkhe, 18^th December 1491, having had issue, three sons and one daughter.

1539 - 1580 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang I, 2^nd Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni). b. ca. 1510, eldest son of H.H. The Most Brilliant Prince Bagrat I, 1^st Prince of Mukhrani, by his wife, H.H. The Most Brilliant Princess Eleni, educ. privately. Succeeded on the resignation of his father, 1539. Regent of Georgia 1569-1579. m. (first) Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Khwaramzi (d. 1528), daughter of H.M. The Most High King Giorgi II, King of Kakheti. m. (second) a daughter of H.M. The Most High King Levanti, King of Kahketi. He d. 1^st October 1580, having had issue, three sons and two daughters:

1) Prince Taimurazi Bagrationi, who succeeded as His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Bagrat II, 3^rd Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni)- see below.
2) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Kaikhushru [Khuzdru], 4^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.
3) Prince Irakli Bagrationi.
1) Princess Eleni.
2) Princess Dédis-Imédi. m. ca. 1545, His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Kaikhushru II Jageli, Atabegi of Samtzkhé (b. 13^th February 1523; d. at Kazvin, 29^th September 1573), eldest son of Quarqvare IV Jageli, Atabegi of Samtzkhé. She d. from illness at Samtzkhé, 26^th August 1580, having had issue, six sons and two daughters.

1580 - 1624 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Bagrat II, 3^rd Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni). b. 16^th July 1572, eldest son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang I, 2^nd Prince of Mukhrani, educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his father, assuming the reign name Bagrat II, 1^st October 1580. Regent of Georgia 1623-1624. m. Her Splendour the Pious Princess of High Rank Ana, daughter of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Nukzar Sidamoni, Duke of Aragvi. He was k. in battle at Mérabdé, 1624, having had issue, six sons and two daughters:

1) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang II, 5^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), who succeeded as H.M. Vakhtang V [Shah Nawaz Khan], King of Kartli - see Georgia (Kartli).
2) Prince Konstantini, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.
3) Prince Archil Bagrationi.
4) Prince Irakli Bagrationi. He d. after 1676.
5) Prince Davit Bagrationi.
6) Prince Nikolaoz Bagrationi. Archbishop of Volnyia 1683.
1) Princess Daredjan. m. Prince Kaikhushru Baratashvili, of Sabaratiano (d. 1626).

1624 - 1627 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Kaikhushru [Khuzdru], 4^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni).b. 1582, second son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang I, 2^nd Prince of Mukhrani , educ. privately. Succeeded on the death of his elder brother, 1624. Regent of Georgia 1624-1625. m. Her Splendour the Pious Princess of High Rank Tinatina (d. 1627), youngest daughter of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Mamia II Gurieli, Duke of the Guria. He d. in Turkey, 1627 (or 3.10.1629?-Dumin), having had issue, five sons:

1) Prince Ashotani Bagrationi. He d. 1697, having had issue, two sons and one daughter:
- a) Prince Kaikhushru Bagrationi.
- b) Prince Jésé Bagrationi. b. ca. 1658. He d. 1716, having had issue, a son:
  - i) Prince Ashotani Bagrationi. He d. 1750.
- a) Princess Tinatina.
2) Prince Bagrati Bagrationi. m. Princess Kethavan, daughter of Prince Givi Amilakhvari. He had issue, two sons:
- a) Prince Svimeon Bagrationi. He had issue, two sons:
  - i) Prince Givi Bagrationi.
  - ii) Prince Bagrati Bagrationi. He d. after 1703, having had issue, two sons:
    - (1) Prince Giorgi Bagrationi. He d. after 1758, having had issue, a son:
      - (a) Prince Bagrati Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Bagrati Georgievitch Bagration-Mukhranski]. m. (first) … m. (second) Princess Tinatina (b. 1775;d. after 1832), daughter of Prince Demetre Diasamidze. He had issue, a son:
        
        (i) Prince Edicher Bagrationi of Mukhrani (s/o the first wife).
        
        (ii) Prince Kaikhushru Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Kaikhushru Bagratovitch Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 1799 (s/o the first wife). m. 9^th February 1830, Princess Varvara (d. after 1851), daughter of Aleksandri Abashadze. He d. 1857, having had issue, three sons and two daughters:
        
        1. Prince Iaoni Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Ivan Kaikhushrovitch Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 1835.
        
        2. Prince Aleksandri Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Alexander Kaikhushrovitch Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 25^th August 1838. m. Princess Kethavan Iosifovna. He d. after 1892, having had issue, two sons:
        
        a. Prince Konstantini Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Konstantin Alexandroviych Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 1870. m. Princess Sofia Ilinichia.
        
        b. Prince Giorgi Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Georgi Alexandroviych Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 1871.
        
        3. Prince Konstantini Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Konstantin Kaikushrovitch Bagration-Mukhranski]. b. 13^th July 1841.
        
        1. Princess Ana [Anna Kaikushrovna]. b. November/December 1830. m. Colonel Alexander Yurievitch Kovako (b. 1822; d. 1900). She d. 14^th January 1899 o.s., having had issue, at least one son.
        
        2. Princess Kethevan [Ketevan Kaikushrovna]. b. 1843. m. Ilya Ivanovitch Chinamdzgrishvili.
        
        (iii) Prince Giorgi Bagrationi of Mukhrani [Kniaz Georgi Bagratovitch Bagration-Mukhranski] (s/o the first wife). m. Princess Maria Ivanovna.
        
        (i) Princess Kethavan. b. 1807 (d/o Tinatina). m. Prince Levan Eristov of Ksani (b. 1805), son of Prince Luarsabi Eristov of Ksani.
        
        (ii) Princess Maia. b. 1812 (d/o Tinatina).
    - (2) Prince Svimeon Bagrationi. b. 1715. He d. after 1795.
    - (3) Prince Bagrati Bagrationi. He d. after 1795.
- b) Prince Nikolaoz Bagrationi. Archbishop of Volnyia.
3) Prince Domenti II. Patriarch-Catholicos of Iberia 1661. He d. 22^nd September 1676 (bur. Mtzkheta).
4) Prince Svimeon Bagrationi. He had issue, a son:
- a) Prince Bagrati Bagrationi.
5) Prince Jésé Bagrationi.
1) Princess Elena. m. as his second wife, Prince Giorgi Sidamoni (d. after 1669), fifth son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Nukzar Sidamoni, Duke of Aragvi. She had issue, five sons.
2) Princess Dédis-Imédi. m. General His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Papuna Panaskerteli-Tsitsishvili, Prince of Kvemo-Satsitsiano (d. after 1663), Grand Master of the Household and cdr. of the Royal Banner, younger son of General His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Zaza Panaskerteli-Tsitsishvili, Prince of Kvemo-Satsitsiano, Governor of Somkheti, Grand Master of the Household and cdr. of the vanguard. She had issue, two sons.

1627 - 1648 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Davit, 5^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), third son of H.M. Taimuraz I [Taimurazi Khan], King of Kartli and Kakheti, by his second wife, H.M. Queen Khwarashan, daughter of H.M. Giorgi X, King of Kartli - see Georgia (Kakheti).

1648 - 1659 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Vakhtang II, 6^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), who succeeded as H.M. Vakhtang V [Shah Nawaz Khan II], King of Kartli - see Georgia (Kartli).

1659 - 1667 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini I, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni). b. ca. 1618, second son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Bagrat II, 3^rd Prince of Mukhrani, by his wife, Her Splendour the Pious Princess of High Rank Ana, educ. privately. Received Mukhrani in fief from his elder brother, King Vakhtang V [Shah Nawaz Khan II], of Kartli, 1659. m. Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Darejan [Daria] (d. 1657, bur. Mtzkheta), daughter of Prince Ghuanna Abashidze, who became a nun under the name of Domna, during her widowhood. He d. 1667 (bur. Mtzkheta), having had issue, six sons and two daughters:

1) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Taimuraz II, 8^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.
2) General Prince Dathuna [Davit] Bagrationi. Cdr. of the Bodyguard 1695. He d. 1728, having had issue, one daughter:
- a) Princess Darejan. m. Prince Farsadani Chichishvili, son of Prince Nodar Chichishvili.
3) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Ashotani II, 9^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.

1) H.M. The Most High Queen Titia. m. 1659, as his second wife, H.M. The Most High King Bagrat V, King of Imereti (b. 1647; d. 1681, bur. St George's Cathedral, Gelat), eldest son of H.M. The Most High King Aleksandri III, by a concubine. She had issue - see Georgia (Imereti).
2) H.M. The Most High Queen Thamar. m. (first) 1661 (div. 1663) and remarried 1678, His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Levanti III Dadiani, Duke of Dukes of Mingrelia (d. 1681), grandson of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Manuchir I, Duke of Dukes of Mingrelia - see Georgia (Mingrelia).m. (second) 1663, as his third wife (div. 1678) H.M. The Most High King Bagrat V, King of Imereti (b. 1647; d. 1681, bur. St George's Cathedral, Gelat), eldest son of H.M. The Most High King Aleksandri III, by a concubine. m. (fourth) 1683, as his third wife, H.M. The Most High King Giorgi III Gurieli, King of Imereti (b. 1652; k. in battle with King Aleksandri IV, at Rokit, 1684), eldest son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Prince Kaikhushru I Gurieli, Duke of Guria, by his wife, Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Khwaramzi, née Goshadze. She d. 1683 - see Georgia (Imereti).

1667 - 1688 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Taimuraz II, 8^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), eldest son of General His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini I, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani. Succeeded on the death of his father 1667. Confirmed in the title of Mukhrani-batoni, for himself and his male descendants. Grand Master of the Household. m. a daughter of The Most Excellent Prince Giorgi Saakadze, Tarkhan-Muravi, of Tiflis, Kartskinvale and Dvaleti, by his wife, Princess Nino, daughter of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Bahadur Sidamoni, Duke of Aragvi. He d. 1688, having had issue, four (or five) sons:

1) Prince Ashotani Bagrationi. He d. young.
2) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini II, 11^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.
3) Prince Oshin [Otia] Bagrationi-Muchraneli. He d. 1718, having had issue, two sons:
- a) Prince Aleksandri Bagrationi-Muchraneli.
- b) Prince Oshin [Otia] Bagrationi-Muchraneli. b. posthumously, 1718.
4) Prince Adarnase Bagrationi.
5) ? Prince Bagrat Bagrationi-Muchraneli. He had issue, one son:
- a) Prince Luarsabi Bagrationi-Muchraneli. b. 1715. He d. young?

1688 - 1691 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Ashotani II, 9^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), third son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini I, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani. Seized the principality after the death of his elder brother, 1688. He d. 1691.

1691 - 1710 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Papuna, 10^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), fourth son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini I, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani. Deposed 1710. Grand Master of the Household 1714. m. Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Thaba (d. 1704, bur. Mtzkheta), daughter of Prince Levanti Abashidze, by his wife, Princess Tinatina, daughter of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Zaal Sidamoni, Duke of Aragvi. He d. 1714 (bur. Mtzkheta), having had issue, one son and one daughter:

1) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Levanti, 13^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.

1710 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini II, 11^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), second son of HHis Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Taimuraz II, 8^th Prince of Mukhrani. Succeeded on the deposition of his uncle, 1710, but deposed soon afterwards. Grand Master of the Household. m. Her Splendour The Pious Princess of High Rank Nino, daughter of Prince Davit Amilakhvari. He d. 1716, having had issue, an only son:

1) His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini III, 16^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni) - see below.

1710 - 1716 His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Irakli, 12^th Prince of Mukhrani (Mukhrani-batoni), fifth son of His Splendour The Pious Prince of High Rank Konstantini I, 7^th Prince of Mukhrani. Seized the principality after the death of his elder brother, and expelled his young nephew. Recognised and formally installed by the King as 12^th Mukhrani-batoni, 1710. Deposed by Royal decree, in favour of his nephew, 1716. He d. 3^rd January 1723, having had issue, two sons:
