[1917 - 1953]  H.R.H. Prince Edward David Kalakaua Kawananakoa, Head of the Royal House of Hawaii. b. at Honolulu, Oahu, 10th March 1904, only son of H.R.H. Prince David La’amea Kahalepouli Kawananakoa, by his wife, H.R.H. Princess Abigail Wahi’ika’ahu’ ula, eldest daughter of James Argyll Campbell, Esq, of Kapolei, Oahu, educ. Oahu Coll, Honolulu, Oahu, Fay Sch, Southboro’, Massachusetts, Taft Sch, Watertown, Connecticut, and Belmont Military Acad, Belmont, California. Succeeded his father as Heir Apparent 2nd June 1908. Succeeded Queen Liliu-o-kalani as Head of the Royal House of Hawaii, 11th November 1917. Employed as an Instrumentsman with Hawaii Public Works Dept (PWD) 1931-1934. Pleaded guilty to a charge of manslaughter for causing the death of his then common-law wife, and sentenced to 10 years hard labour 20th November 1937 (paroled after serving 42 months). He served in WW2 1941-1945 with the USN and US Coast Guard. m. Univ of Hawaii, Honolulu, Oahu, elder daughter of Rear-Admiral Charles Thomas Hutchins, USN, sometime cdr of the US Pacific Fleet, by his wife, Eileen Mary, sister of The Rt Hon Francis Alexander Anglin, PC, KC, sometime Chief Justice of Canada, and fourth daughter of The Hon Timothy Warren Anglin, PC, sometime Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada. m. (second) at Malaekahana Beach, North Shore, Oahu, 27th September 1941 (div. 1948) Gertrude Leilani Scott (b. at Lihue, Kauai, 17th October 1904; m. third, at Honolulu, Oahu, 1948, George Rossman Humphrey, and d. 26th January 1978, bur. Lihue Cemetery, Kauai), former wife of Lindsay Anton Faye, and elder daughter of Walter Henry Scott, of Honolulu, Oahu, by his wife, Mary Eleanor Kaonohilani, eldest daughter of William Hyde Rice, of Honolulu, Oahu, a descendant of Lady Joan Beaufort. m. (third) at Reno, Washoe Co, Nevada, USA, 27th October 1949, H.R.H. Princess Cecilia Kuliaikanuuwaialeale Kawananakoa (b. at Hono, Oahu, 3rd August 1907; m. third, after 1970, Walter Patrick Alapua Schoening, and d. there, at the Kaiser Medical Centre, 23rd February 1981, bur. National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl), educ. Sacred Hearts’ Convent Sch, Nuuanu, Sacred Hearts Acad (SHA), Wai’alae, and The Phillips Commercial Sch, Honolulu, Oahu, Mbr Kaahumanu Soc, National Genealogical Soc, Prince Kuhio Hawaiian Civic Club 1974-1981, etc, former wife of Thomas Charles Kealiimoewai Lake (by whom she had two sons and a daughter), adopted daughter of Madame Nahi Alapa‘i, the legendary singer, and second daughter of Stephen Lonokahi Keaolani Parker-Waipa, of Honolulu, Oahu, by his second wife, Helen Kepuahakilani McCabe Wong Parker-Waipa, daughter of Tai Poon Wong, of Honolulu, Oahu. m. Holualoa, Hawaii, 6th April 1915; d. from severe bloodloss from a severed artery, caused by a piece of broken ceramic crockery flung at her by Prince David, at their home in Waikiki, Honolulu Co, Oahu, 24th October 1937 (bur. there, Oahu Cemetery), eldest daughter of Herbert Lee Kinslea, of Oakland, Alameda Co, California, USA, by his wife, Matilda Kealaulaokalani, daughter of James Silas Lemon, of Honolulu, Oahu. He d.s.p. at Honolulu, Oahu, 20th May 1953 (bur. there, Mauna ‘Ala, Nu’uanu Valley).
