The state of
Johol is one of the component states of the Negri
Sembilan Federation. Originally known as Pasir Besar, it
was renamed Luak Johol in 1723. The ruler is one of the
four traditional electors of the Yang di-Pertuan of the
Negri Sembilan federation.

RULES OF
SUCCESSION:
The Dato' Undang
is elected by the great nobles and vassals of the state,
form amongst the male descendants of the first ruler,
Dato' Putri Siti Awan in the female line. It is usual for
the son of the eldest sister of the previous title-holder
to succeed.

Taken into forced labour under tha Japanese occupation
and sent to work on the Thai-Burma Railway 1942-1945,
repatriated to Malays in 1946. Joined the Federal Police
Force in Kuala Lumpur 1948, served during the emergency,
prom. Corporal 1953. Employed with the Dept. of Lands in
Seremban 1957-1863, and the State Electricity Dept. at
Port Dickson 1964-1976. Installed as Dato' Baginda Tan
Mas, 7th October 1985. Selected as 13thDatuk Undang of Luak Johol, 30th
September 1988. Installed at the Istana Besar, Sri
Menanti, 24th November 1988. Rcvd: DTNS
(1988). m. June 1945, To' Puan Selamah binti
Sichat. He d. at Kampung Betung, Tanggai, 13th
