Sultan Abul Amlak Sidi Muhammad as-Sharif

1631 - 1636 Sultan Abul Amlak Sidi Muhammad as-Sharif bin 'Ali, Sultan of Tafilalt. b. before 9th November 1589, sixth son of 'Ali as-Sharif al-Marrakchi. Abdicated in favour of his eldest son, 1636. He d. at Sijilmasa (Rissani), Tafilalt, 5th June 1659, having had issue, fifteen sons:

1664 - 1672 Sultan Mulay Muhammad al-Rashid bin Sharif, Sultan of Morocco, etc, b. at Sijilmasa (Rissani), Tafilalt, 1631, sixth son of Sultan Abul Amlak Sidi Muhammad as-Sharif bin 'Ali, Sultan of Tafilalt, educ. privately. Proclaimed at Toza, on the death of his elder half-brother as Sultan of Tafilalt, 2nd August 1664. Proclaimed as Sultan of Morocco, etc. at Fez, 22nd October 1664. Conquered and secured Marrakesh on 7th September 1668 and established his capital there. A strong and powerful ruler, he is considered the real founder of the Alawi dynasty in Morocco. He removed the Zawyia of Dila, eradicated lawlessness, built the Mederssa Sharratin, the Kasbah of Shrarda at Fez, and the Kasbah of Oudaya at Rabat.
